María Elena loves to sew; she delights in creating garments. Since childhood, she has made clothes for her dolls; in school, she won drawing competitions, and she enjoyed taking garments apart to fashion them into something entirely different. This creativity and enthusiasm have enabled her—to this day—to craft clothing and sew all manner of costumes, serving as her livelihood for many years and contributing to her household's financial stability.

She has served in various callings, including as President of the Relief Society, President of the Young Women, President of the Primary, Ministering Sister Leader, Activities Leader, Stake Missionary, Ward Missionary, Self-Reliance Facilitator, Stake Self-Reliance Specialist, President of the AC Academy, and Sunday School Teacher.

Her ideal career would be to launch her own clothing brand and to teach the art of sewing to those who are unable to pursue formal education due to financial constraints.
